(Watch) How Tym Wallace Achieved Mary J. Blige’s Boss MET Look

At last MET Gala 2025, celebrities, designers and creators-alike, came together, once again to celebrate Fashion’s Night Out – the MET Gala. This year’s iconic theme showcased nothing but Black style and Dandyism in the theme “SuperFine: Tailoring Black Style” , where celebrities and their fave designers added their own stylish twist and interpretation.

Celebrity hairstylist Tym Wallace transformed the Queen of R&B Mary J Blige, from her signature blonde tresses to a natural Black color (fitting for the evening). The look was inspired by a female boss from the Harlem Renaissance.

Here is a step-by-step to achieve Mary J Blige’s new look.

Step 1: “First off to achieve the dark color hue, I started by coloring the hair using Dark & Lovely 372 Natural Black. I then mixed the color in a tint bowl and dipped the Custom True Indian Blondie 613 RTW HD Glueless wig by submerging from tip to root.

Step 2: After thoroughly coloring, I let the hair sit per the instructions on the box.
Step 3: Next, I shampooed and conditioned the hair followed by blow-drying the hair using a diffuser to keep the natural texture and maintain volume at the roots.
Step 4: Once dried, I flat-ironed the ends to smooth them out while leaving the natural texture at the bottom for a blended look.
Step 5: I applied the hair using Professional Hair Labs GHOSTBOND XL adhesive to ensure a strong hold.
Step 6: For finishing touches, I used a wax stick to smooth down the part to achieve a sleek finish, then applied a serum to add gloss and define the natural texture.”
