Rest In Power: Tito Jackson, Founding Member of The Jackson Five

By now, the world has learned of the untimely death of Toriano Adaryll Jackson, aka Tito Jackson, one of the famous Jackson siblings and the guitar player for the Jackson Five, later known as The Jacksons.  My heart is breaking as I have known and looked up to Mr. Jackson since my school days and later as the Editor in Chief of Right On! Magazine.
Mr. Jackson, the former husband of Delores Jackson, who passed away from an unfortunate drowning which was recounted on ABC News (both Mr. Jackson and I appear in the episode), was born on October 15, 1953, in Gary, Indiana.  Known by his moniker “Papa T, in later years, Mr. Jackson initially rose to fame as one of Michael’s older siblings, and his musicianship was always part of Jacksons’ legacy.

Tito’s three sons were fondly named  Taj, Tarryl, and TJ, as a nod to the first initial in his first name.
In our talks and interviews, Tito often fondly recalled his first exposure in Right On! Magazine. Our bond was more than professional; I loved him like a brother. I take comfort in knowing that he is now with Michael, walking through the Heavenly Gates, where his music and memory will live on.

While this tribute is a small token of my respect for Tito, I plan to share more anecdotes about him in the near future. It’s my way of keeping his memory alive and honoring his legacy as a musical legend.
