Actor Frankie Faison (“Coming To America,” “Luke Cage,” “The Wire” and other popular film and television projects) was honored to star in”The Killing Of Kenneth Chamberlain,” a film about a vet who was killed in his apartment in White Plains, NY, on November 19, 2011.
The late Mr. Chamberlain had got involved in a standoff with police officers who were responding to a call that there may have been some kind of trouble in the dwelling. Actually, the decorated veteran had accidentally set off his medical alert device, and his refusal to allow police entry into his apartment for a routine “wellness check” ended up costing his his life. Even though neighbors pleaded with police to use another way of resolving the issue, this man was shot to death within two hours of the police arriving. The horrific death, which occurred once the police broke down the door of the apartment, is the subject of the film executive produced by Morgan Freeman and Lori McCreary.
The award-winning film is heart-wrenching and brings to light the need for police reform and accountability for their actions. It also touches on the plight of our veterans who may need additional resources once they have returned from serving. their country.
