Comedian, actor, and entrepreneur Katt Williams stars in TextNow’s brand campaign, Way Too Smart To Pay Dumb, encouraging consumers to rethink traditional wireless plans while highlighting more flexible wireless options.
Launched on July 28, 2026, the campaign uses Williams’ signature humor and unfiltered style to spotlight common frustrations with wireless services, including confusing contracts, hidden fees, and costly phone plans. Through a series of commercials, TextNow promotes its app-based phone service as a flexible alternative that gives users great control over how they stay connected.
The campaign also features the late Nipsey Hussle’s song “U See Us,” reinforcing themes of independence, ownership, and self-determination that align with both Williams’ career and TextNow’s mission.
“No one should be out here overpaying to stay connected in today’s ever-connected society when smarter options like TextNow exist,” Williams said in a statement. “TextNow is proving that staying connected doesn’t mean giving up control, and that’s what being too smart to pay dumb is about.”
According to TextNow founder and CEO Derek Ting, Williams was chosen because of his independent approach throughout his career and his willingness to challenge convention, qualities the company believes reflect the campaign’s message.
TextNow offers a free app-based wireless service with nationwide talk and text, along with flexible data options that allow customers to add service by the day, week, or month without long-term commitments.
