As students prepare to return to campuses across the country for the 2026-2027 academic year, Tuskegee University’s 2025-2026 Student Handbook outlines dress code expectations intended to maintain “decorum appropriate to a university environment.” According to the handbook, the policy is designed to provide students with “general dress code parameters” and is “not intended to be overly prescriptive.”
The handbook states that students are expected to dress “in good taste” and choose attire that is appropriate for the time, occasion, and place. It also notes that students are not permitted to wear sleepwear outside of residence halls and includes guidelines regarding certain types of headwear inside university buildings. In addition, the handbook states that “any style of dress that distracts or takes away from the teaching/learning process in the classroom will not be permitted.”
As colleges and universities prepare for the upcoming academic year, many institutions continue to communicate campus policies and expectations for students. Tuskegee University’s handbook outlines the school’s dress code as part of its broader student conduct policies and campus standards.
