(LOS ANGELES, CA) – Hip-hop superstar J. Cole sat down with GQ’s Frazier Tharpe at Chef Kwame Onwuachi’s Afro-Caribbean restaurant, Maroon, nestled within the boutique-style Sahara LV, as he gives praise to his longtime mentor and A&R, the legendary music executive and COFVNDERS CEO, Mark Pitts.
Seated at a round table within Maroon, GQ Video enabled Cole the chance to provide fans a rare look at an intimate discussion between him and his friend and early industry guide, as they delve into some of his more vulnerable reflections and insights garnered across both their careers.
Albeit the more formal and long-documented working history between the two, they come to the table as two men, two brothers, full of love and respect, and always free of ego. Cole humbly applauds Pitts on his successful career moves and acting as his lead blocker and supportive guide for him in the music industry; and Pitts re-affirms his early belief and choices in Cole, knowing he’d achieve the heights and respect he wields in hip-hop today.
The conversation covers the gamut, from Pitts spearheading the beef squash between Jay-Z and Nas, and Cole’s discovery and early style, to their goals for the genres of Hip-Hop and R&B, his beginnings with Roc Nation, and more.
