Magazine, interviewed Claude McKnight, the co-founder of Take 6, about the group’s upcoming performance at the Black Spectrum Theater in Queens. Claude discussed the significance of performing in intimate, community-oriented venues like the Black Spectrum Theater, which is located in Jamaica, Queens.

Claude discussed the benefits of performing in intimate settings, emphasizing the group’s connection with the audience and the community. Cynthia inquired about Take 6’s longevity, to which Claude replied that they never anticipated lasting 40 years, focusing instead on living in the moment. Claude expressed gratitude for inspiring other vocalists, highlighting the meaningful impact of hearing from peers and those they have influenced. When asked about significant awards, Claude noted that a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist, though not won, was particularly special due to its uniqueness and the select group of artists in the category.

Take 6’s Upcoming Album Release

Claude discussed Take 6’s current project, a nearly completed album titled “Rhapsody” featuring jazz standards by artists like Ellington and Carmichael, which is set to be released after the new year. He mentioned that the group will perform one or two songs from the new album during their current tour to give audiences a preview. Claude also shared his interest in voiceover work, noting that while he hasn’t done much of it, he is currently working on a reel. In response to Cynthia’s question about advice for young, talented vocalists in the evolving music industry, Claude emphasized the importance of passion, authenticity, and staying true to one’s unique style rather than trying to emulate others.
