Syndee Winters, a phenomenal talent who has not only played on Broadway but performs in international settings as a Disney character, discussed her new project inspired by Lena Horne, highlighting the challenges faced by performers of color in the entertainment industry and her brand-new album, “The Makings of a Lady.” Released on June 30, 2025, in honor of the iconic Lena Horne’s 108th birthday, the CD is jam-packed with wonderful, classic music. Syndee discussed the evolving challenges faced by performers of color in the entertainment industry, noting that while earlier generations struggled with limited access to major studios and racial barriers, newer performers now face different challenges in a digital age with increased competition and the need to adapt to changing systems. She highlighted her favorite song, “Believe in Yourself,” and shared that the album includes an original song, “Alive.” Syndee also revealed plans for a visuals accompanying the album that explore the characteristics of being a lady through the lens of Lena Horne’s life and persona. Additionally, she shared her passion for her work with Disney, including her role as Nala in “The Lion King” on Broadway and her involvement in other musical productions. Cynthia Horner and Syndee also discussed Syndee‘s career in performing arts, focusing on her determination and approach to competition. Syndee shared her experiences pursuing acting, singing, and songwriting, emphasizing her passion for collaboration and creativity. She recounted a pivotal moment when a stranger’s comment about competition inspired her to pursue her dreams fearlessly. Syndee also reflected on her participation in the Sarah Vaughan International Vocal Jazz Competition, where she placed first runner-up and expressed pride in fellow competitors. Cynthia commended Syndee‘s confidence and encouraged others to focus on personal growth rather than comparing themselves to others.
