Bad news from the Cold Chillin’/Juice Crew Camp. Calvin LeBrun, aka DJ Mister Cee, has passed, much to the dismay of his colleagues and fans. Tyrone Williams, co-founder of Cold Chillin’ told Right On! Digital Publisher Cynthia Horner, “I am still in shock.” The death of this beloved DJ falls on the heels of other fallen soldiers from the label, Biz Markie, Granddaddy I.U., and of course, the incomparable Biz Markie.
DJ Mister Cee, who was from Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, was known for his association with Big Daddy Kane (“Long Live The Kane”) and the Notorious B.I.G. (“Ready To Die”) The popular DJ’S death was confirmed by multiple sources, including Skip Dillard at 94.7 The Block NYC. “We’ve lost one of the most important figures in the industry,” Dillard commented. Prior to having a show on The Block, Mister Cee was a fixture on NYC’s Hot 97.
Cynthia Horner caught up Cee back in November 2023, when he participated in a conversation at the Apollo Theater with Video Music Box CEO Ralph McDaniels, which was in celebration of Cold Chillin’s 35th anniversary. Right On! Magazine was at the forefront of the Cold Chillin’ pr efforts, and Mister Cee paid tribute to Horner and the magazine in a moving Instagram post.
Mister Cee passed away on April 10, 2024, and will be missed by his thousands and thousands of fans and supporters who loved “The Finisher.”
