The Biden Administration has announced that they will be going forward with plans to erase $39 billion dollars in student debt that have been accumulated by over 800,000 eligible borrowers. The debt-relief program will also re-adjust the loans of millions of other borrowers and is primarily for federals loans that are directly owned by the Department of Education who have previously enrolled in income-driven repayment plans or people who may have qualified for loan forgiveness.
The program should be initiated within the next few weeks and was originally rejected by the Supreme Court 2 weeks prior since they deemed that the president did not have to power to do s was too broad and that the president did not have to power to do without discretion from Congress.
