Solange Knowles, Beyoncé’s Younger Sister, is composing music for the New York City Ballet and the company announced that her ballet score will premiere at its Fall Fashion Gala at the Lincoln Center on September 28, 2022. The day after the announcement, she wrote about her excitement on Twitter saying, “Very excited to announce I’ve composed an original score for the New York City Ballet. Choreography by Gianna Reisen, score performed by the City Ballet Orchestra + soloist from my ensemble”, as the company also called her to be a “multi-hyphenate recording artist” and are thrilled to have worked with her as well.
Solange first started her career off as a backup dancer for her older sister and also creates her own pop and R&B music, in which she eventually strayed away from that path and went the exact opposite direction with composition. Solange is also one of the 29 Black female artists that Beyoncé honored in her “Break My Soul” remix and has won a Grammy Award in 2016 for “Best R&B Performance” with her “Cranes In The Sky”.
