The official kick-off to the Holidays began on Tuesday with the launch of the 28th Annual Harlem Holiday Lights Caravan. This year the parade added several big names to its roster of participants. Superstar, entrepreneur and celebrity talk show host Nick Cannon was this year’s Grand Marshal, and he brought the sizzle, the joy and the community spirit that everyone expected. Joining him and adding to the excitement of the evening were South Bronx’s firebrand rapper/actor Fat Joe, Harlem’s own – rapper/entrepreneur A$ap Ferg, and Grammy Award-winning jazz musician and composer, Arturo O’Farrill (Afro-Latin Jazz Alliance).

Barbara Askins, President of the 125th Street Business Improvement District, along with her partners at Community Boards 9 & 10, as well as the Mount Morris Community Improvement Association did not disappoint. Together they accomplished the monumental task of bringing together local Harlem-based Organizations, the Churches, the Academic Community, the Arts & Culture Community, the Business Community, the police department, and residents, to help make the evening – one to remember.

Prior to the start, parade participants gathered at the step and repeat for photos, interviews, and for a chance to have a turn at the 360 Social Media Cam. At 5:45 pm participants boarded their floats to begin the countdown that launched the caravan of floats and Sling cars. Even the Grinch was having a blast!
