Legendary producer Pete Rock was recently celebrated at IMI Studios in NYC at an exclusive Tracklib sample breakdown session and sit-down interview. The musical experience celebrated one of the most revered hip-hop producers of all time as he spoke about some of his most notable tracks during his illustrious career. Pete reminisced on his process while creating many of his groundbreaking tracks over the years as well as his work with Kanye West, Nas, and Jay Z. Pete also highlighted his beat battle completion with Tracklib, the world’s first and only record store for sampling. Together they are offering aspiring producers and musicians a chance to learn from one of the best with a one-on-one remote session with the master of sampling himself, Pete Rock. Aspiring producers can create a beat using a sample from the 1970s soul classic “Handle With Care” by Ben Aiken from the label Reservoir. The winning beat will be selected by the Chocolate Boy Wonder himself, with the winner also receiving an autographed MPC Live II Retro Edition. Pete Rock was also joined by Wu-Tang Clan DJ and producer, Mathematics.
From working with CL Smooth as a powerhouse duo and producing timeless hip-hop classics like, “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)” to producing for Nas, Public Enemy, Run-DMC, Jay-Z & Kanye West, Pete Rock is a sampling trailblazer and innovator.
