Immersed in his dedication to being obedient to Yahweh, Right On’s Tameka J caught up with PTtheGospelSpitter to talk about the Man, Ministry, Music and Film.
RO: Who is PTTheGospelSpitter? Tell us about your journey.
PT: PTtheGospelSpitter is The BadBoy Of Gospel (international #1 charting Gospel/CHH artist). PTtheGospelSpitter is also Ashante PT Stokes (award-winning film director/screenwriter and actor). A little bit about my journey. I’m a native of Atlanta, GA with an upbringing that consisted of Baptist (from my mother’s side) and Presbyterian (from my father’s side) faith. My faith walk had me asking all types of questions since I would see two takes on YHWH. It had me taking a rebellious Prodigal Son journey that led me to becoming called The BadBoy Of Gospel and a Hall Of Famer.RO: Who was instrumental in teaching you to write, sing and play on your projects?
PT: People that were Instrumental in teaching me to write, sing/rap and act on my projects are: my dad, Robert Townsend and Eddie Murphy. My dad had me digesting film credits at an early age. We would stay after at the movie theater (after watching whatever it was we went to see) and watch the end credits for film projects. I didn’t understand why at the time. I just wanted to hang out with my pops and do what he was doing. He also put me onto Robert Townsend early on and how Robert would produce/direct/act in his own projects. He (my dad) also put me onto Eddie Murphy who would work in similar fashion as Robert did on his projects. Seeing this from an early age had me with this WILD belief/faith in what YHWH (I believe) has called me to do for The Kingdom in writing/directing/singing/rapping/acting in these projects. RO: Who are the special people in your life that holds you down and keeps you encouraged?

PT: Ayyyyeee!! Preciate that and DEFO gotta say thank you to YHWH from whom all these blessings flow! The purpose behind the creation of “Kingdom” (and its many versions) is to lead people to salvation. I wanted to tell a story about how living for The Kingdom of YHWH (GOD) is/was life changing for me. Also, how the same life changing experiences can happen for anyone and lead you closer to the King of Kings. YHWH willing, that is how people are receiving it.RO: God is opening so many doors for you, not only in music, but also in film; how did you get here? and tell us about your film projects?PT: YHWH (GOD) is DEFO opening up so many doors for me in music and film. It is only by His grace, mercy and favor that I’m here. He is allowing me to represent The Kingdom as an artist and a filmmaker. My continual prayer/belief is that YHWH is allowing me all of this success/support because I’m doing my best/blessed to continue to be a good steward of my initial talent/gift of singing.
