Black History Month Spotlight: Spike Lee

Spike Lee is a visionary and remains at the forefront of the film industry, having challenged the minds of film audiences for over three decades.  His early films are now cult classics and are must-see products.  From She’s Gotta Have It to such memorable flicks as School Daze, Do The Right Thing and Malcolm X, a Spike Lee Joint is always thought-provoking. His smash hit, The BlacKkKlansman, has been nominated for numerous awards as it is considered the story of an American hero.  Based on a true story, the film centers around Ron Stallworth, portrayed by John David Washington, who becomes the first African-American in the Colorado Springs Police Department.  The detective decides to undertake a daring mission: infiltrate and expose the Ku Klux Klan.

An avid basketball fan, Spike Lee has enjoyed supporting sports and the arts.  Yearly, he treats his fellow Brooklyn, NY to a special celebration for the late Michael Jackson.  This humble, gentle giant continues to find new projects and reinvent himself but his name will forever live through his dozens of films.
